Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan SummaryGenre: Reverse Harem, Otome game, Samurai, Tragedy, Romance
Game Developer/Publisher: Idea Factory
Released: October 2010
Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan starts with our heroine Yukimura Chizuru who has come to Kyoto looking for her father, a doctor who has gone missing. While there, she witnesses a fight between the Shinsengumi and a group of white-haired, non-human creatures called Rasetsu. The Shinsengumi take Chizuru into custody and debate what to do with her until they discover that her father is the man they have been looking for as well. Chizuru joins the group in their search for the missing doctor, cooking for them and attending to them. A bond slowly grows between the captains of the Shinsengumi and Yukimura Chizuru. Throughout the series they face many Rasetsu, and find that Chizuru's father has a darker purpose than she could have imagined. They also face oni, pure-blooded demons, who ridicule the Rasetsu for being crude imitations of themselves; are the oni with or against the Shinsengumi? Will they work together, or will their differing values become apparent enough to spark bitter warfare during an already turbulent political period in Japan? Source: www.hakuouki.wikia.com

Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan ReviewI wasn't really into Harem stories simply because of love triangles or more. However, what I liked about it were the bishies! They were simply amazing and hot! I may not be a sucker of Bishounen but mind you, it was one of the reasons why I would go after all the series despite the pairings I may not liked, if there was. And Hakuouki's one hell of a bishounen group! (drool). Admittedly, the very reason why I watched it 'til the end was because of these bishies especially Hijikata. Yes, I belonged to Hijikata's fans club, haha!
|The Seven Shinsengumi (Hajime, Souji, Hijikata, Sanosuke, Heisuke, Shinpachi, Keisuke)|
The story was quite good but it had an inconsistent plot that would certainly make you think "What's happening?" particularly in the battlefield plot. Although it was an anime packed with action and a little coat of romance, which was everybody might end up looking for into an anime, there was still something in the story that I couldn't quiet figure out— the female protagonist's existence. Among all the characters presented in the story, Chizuru's characters failed the most. It didn't have any development! She just whined and cried and sought protection from shinsengumi just like a damsel in distress. Well, I couldn't blame her if I were to be surrounded by them, lol. Compared to Tamaki in Hiiro no Kakera (they are drawn by the same artist if I'm not mistaken) I would choose Chizuru over her. Yes, that's right.
|Damn hot Hijikata!|
Overall, I find it entertaining and worth watching for. The story is fine and the art is excellent and amazing! Yet, there is one major DRAWBACK in this anime... THE ENDING SUCKSSS!!!! Aurghhh, who made the ending? Why do they have to......... -_-
I won't spill out everything that had happened in the story as to not spoil it. Just watch them and enjoy. Prepare tissues if you're a crybaby ^_^.
